What we actually put on your floor.

No mystery buckets. This is the full build-up we install — the products, the coverage rates, the cure windows, and the chemical-resistance numbers — straight off the manufacturer’s system specification.

The System

Two finishes, one build-up.

Both are colored chips broadcast into a 100%-solids pigmented epoxy and sealed under a clear polyaspartic topcoat. The only difference is how heavily the chip is broadcast.

Full broadcast

Liquid Granite™

Chip is broadcast to refusal — until no wet spots show through. Gives the dense, speckled granite look and hides the slab completely.

Chip rate 10 ft² per pound

Light broadcast

Liquid Terrazzo™

Chip is sprinkled evenly and sparsely, so the base color still reads through. A cleaner, more terrazzo-like finish.

Application

How it goes down, step by step.

Mix ratios are by volume. Every figure below assumes 72°F and 50% relative humidity — cooler slows everything down.

Inspect & prepare

The slab has to be structurally sound, clean, dry, and free of grease, paint, oil, dust, curing agents and laitance. Cracks and joints get pre-cut with a diamond blade to at least ¼ × ¼ inch. We profile to CSP 2–3 per ICRI — aggressive enough to bite, not so smooth the coating can’t key in.

Test for moisture

This is the step that gets skipped and causes failures. Every slab gets tested before a seamless coating goes on. Over either threshold and a moisture vapor barrier (EC-15) goes down first — no exceptions.

Treat cracks

EC-72 Epoxy Patch Gel mixed 1:1 for 3–4 minutes, worked into the crack with a trowel or putty knife. Slightly overfilled, then ground flush once hard. Honest caveat: patching is a remedial fix, not a guarantee — if the slab moves again, the coating over it can crack again.

Prime

EC-12 mixed 2:1 for 3–4 minutes, thinned with 1–2 quarts of CA-23 per 1½-gallon kit for deeper penetration. Applied with trowel or squeegee then back-rolled for full coverage, and carried up the cove to the termination point. Thinned material stays under 5 mils and is never allowed to puddle, or it won’t cure properly.

Broadcast coat

EC-34 mixed 2:1, with all part A’s boxed together first so the color stays consistent across the floor. Chip goes into the coating while it’s still wet — to refusal for Granite, evenly sprinkled for Terrazzo. Once cured we sweep, scrape or sand the surface back, then sweep and vacuum every loose chip before topcoating.

Topcoat & cure

Clear EC-102 polyaspartic seals the whole thing. Recoat as soon as the previous coat is dry to the touch, but never later than 24 hours or intercoat adhesion suffers. Then the floor needs to be left alone — this is the part customers push on and it’s the part that matters most.

Options

Where the spec can flex.

The standard stack covers most jobs. These are the documented substitutions we can make when a floor needs something different.

Faster turnaround / vehicle traffic

  • EC-102 Polyaspartic as the primer — thinned 20% with CA-23 at 400–500 ft²/gal, broadcast can follow in 1–4 hours instead of overnight.
  • EC-102 for the broadcast coat and topcoat where vehicles are involved — better UV and chemical resistance, faster dry.
  • EC-101 Polyaspartic 100% Solids for greater UV protection and a quicker install.

Slip resistance

  • CA-30 Small or CA-31 Large Safe Grip broadcast into the EC-102.
  • CA-33 Aluminum Oxide for heavy-traffic areas.
  • Strongly recommended anywhere the floor may get wet, oily or greasy.

Movement & substrate issues

  • Westcoat Flex Epoxy System installed underneath when a fully flexible membrane is needed.
  • TC-29 Concrete Patch for holes, spalls and minor cracks.
  • Epoxy Cove System to form the wall-to-floor transition.

Alternate coats

  • EC-33 in place of EC-34 for the broadcast coat.
  • EC-36 100% Solids Epoxy plus a CA-36 Color Pack in place of EC-34.
  • EC-36 in place of EC-102 for the topcoat.
  • EC-11 Water-Based Epoxy for a fully water-based, light-duty install.

Colors

Chip blends & base colors.

The chip blend sets the character; the base color underneath shifts it warm or cool. These are the manufacturer’s recommended pairings — we’ll put physical samples in your hands before anything gets mixed.

EC-102 polyaspartic topcoat, tested per ASTM D1308. Single figures are 2-hour contact; a slashed pair is 2-hour / 24-hour.

Limitations

What this system won’t do.

Straight from the spec. We’d rather tell you up front than argue about it later.

  • Interior use only.
  • Professional installation only.
  • Do not apply below 50°F or above 90°F — cooler temperatures slow cure times.
  • Exceeding ≤ 6 dry mils per coat can reduce EC-102 hardness and increase the chance of tire staining.
  • Tire traffic before the 72-hour cure can cause plasticizer migration and tire staining.
  • Thinly applied coatings may not hide epoxy patches, rough concrete or shot-blast tracks.
  • EC-102 must cure 48 hours minimum before contact with water.
  • EC-102 has an odor during installation.
  • A heavier topcoat can become slippery — slip-resistant additive strongly recommended for wet or oily areas.
  • Slab moisture and vapor drive must be tested first.
  • Approval of proposed colors, textures and slip resistance is recommended before install.
  • Materials must never be allowed to freeze.

Maintenance

Keeping it for the long haul.

The finish is easy to live with. The only thing it genuinely needs is a topcoat refresh before the wear layer is gone — resealing on schedule is far cheaper than re-doing the floor.

Day to day

Dust mop, or damp mop with a neutral-pH cleaner. No harsh degreasers needed.

Inspect

Have the floor looked at for wear every 2 to 4 years.

Reseal

Fresh topcoat every 3 to 5 years, depending on traffic and UV exposure.

Spills

Wipe up promptly. See the chemical-resistance table for what tolerates a long dwell.
